I am a visual artist, producing works on paper or canvas with a combination of acrylic paint, collage and oil sticks or pastels. I use colour as my main message to produce vividly bright pieces that hopefully glow with excitement. My work is mainly abstract but the inclusion of collage pieces adds tension and meaning to the work by using symbolic ideas from the realms of science and religion. In scientific based work I try to identify concepts to the viewer which can lead to questioning the many dogmas inherent in the scientific cannon. In religious based work I use iconography in collage to express spirituality and enigmatic feelings bordering on the macabre. In both types of content I try to express the idea of the “Duende” as outlined by the poet Lorca, “A mysterious power which everyone feels, and no philosopher can explain”.
